It is with deep regret to inform all our members of WASMGA, of the passing of Alan Jordan, 3rd of February, 2015 Alan was born in Kalgoorlie in 1936 in a small hospital situated on the corner of Campbell and Graham Streets. He lived in Kalgoorlie until age 25 having enrolled at WASM in 1952.
The Mining Diploma award Alan was working towards, required that students work underground for two years and Alan carried this out at the Paringa Mine, a landmark which has since disappeared into the Super Pit. Alan moved his family to NSW to begin work at the Cobar Mines. Alan was then headhunted by White Industries to become GM of Mining. Alan and his good friend Bob Beavis, set up the first successful ‘carbon pulp’ process in Australia to re-treat a tailings dump at Evanston, 70km west of Menzies. In 1987, with his partner Carolyn, set up a small underground mining operation between Southern Cross and Bullfinch. They worked that mine together for 10 years. He then started Aerobelt Australia Pty Ltd, a company which designs, manufactures and installs air-supported conveyors using a concept developed in Holland. Alan has said being a part time student and working during the day time was very difficult for an 18 yr old not overly keen on the books. But the rewards of gaining a qualification from Australia’s prestigious School of Mines made the effort well worthwhile.
