Emeritus Professor Odwyn Jones was a transformative leader in mining education and a Patron of the WA School of Mines Graduates Association. He served as Resident Director of WASM in Kalgoorlie for 15 years from 1976, overseeing a major resurgence in the School’s reputation, academic standards and infrastructure. Under his leadership, WASM attained degree, Masters and PhD status and became a recognised university-level institution.
Odwyn played a pivotal role in expanding academic staff, research capacity and student outcomes. He was instrumental in establishing key facilities such as the WMC Conference Centre and the Brodie-Hall Research and Consultancy Centre. Known for his exceptional mentoring and strong industry partnerships, Odwyn’s legacy is deeply embedded in the growth and modernisation of WASM.
