Tony James, Managing Director of Carbine Resources, was awarded Life Membership of the WASM Alumni in August 2016, recognising his decade of service as Alumni President. He remains active in the mining industry, now focused on gold recovery from the historic Mount Morgan tailings in Queensland.
Born in Bridgetown, WA, James was encouraged by his father to explore a mining career. After a WASM tour in 1980, he enrolled in mining engineering in 1981. His career has spanned roles with BHP Gold Mines, Newcrest, Delta Gold, LionOre, and Alacer Gold Corp.
He reconnected with WASM in 2000 when he returned to Kalgoorlie to work at Kanowna Belle. Wanting to give back, he joined the Alumni committee and later served as President for 10 years.
“WASM gave me great opportunities, and I wanted to help strengthen its legacy. I’m honoured to receive Life Membership,” he says.
