Life Membership is awarded by the Alumni Council for meritorious service by WASM Graduates, in recognition of their widely regarded superior contributions to WASM and the alumni over time.
Phil Plaisted is a highly experienced professional in the mining and metallurgical industry, particularly known for his extensive work in the diamond sector.
Phil graduated from the WA School of Mines: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering in Kalgoorlie in 1972 with a degree in Metallurgy. Over his 40-year career, he has held various technical, operational, and managerial roles across multiple commodities and locations in Australia and overseas, including the UK, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The majority of Phil’s career was spent in the diamond industry as a General Manager at Argyle Diamonds in WA and as the Managing Director of Murowa Diamonds in Zimbabwe. He is currently semi-retired and regularly undertakes consulting work in the resources sector.
Phil has been a dedicated supporter and active member of the WA School of Mines Alumni. He joined the Council in 2015 and lead the membership sub-committee for many years. Phil also plays an active role in helping maintain the historical records of the Alumni.
Over the years, the Council has appreciated Phil’s considered thoughts and sage advice. His wisdom, guidance and kindness make him an exceptionally deserving recipient of WASMA Life Membership.
