The Western Australian School of Mines Alumni (WASMA) is proud to announce that Shayera Allen has been awarded the prestigious 2025 WASMA Gold Medal. This annual award recognises a graduating student who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance, industry leadership, and a strong commitment to community engagement.
Shayera, a standout student at WA School of Mines: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering, has excelled in her studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mining Engineering with first-class honours. Her dedication to her field and pursuit of excellence have earned her numerous accolades throughout her academic journey.
Among her many achievements, Shayera was awarded the 2024 Ray Finlayson Medal at the Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum, the 2023 IGO Ltd Mining Engineering Scholarship, and the 2022 Newcrest Mining Limited Mining Engineering Scholarship. Her impressive academic record is complemented by hands-on industry experience, having completed internships with leading mining companies such as BHP, Northern Star Resources Limited, and Newmont Corporation.
Beyond academics, Shayera has shown exceptional leadership and commitment to the university community. As President of the WASM Social Club Inc., she played a pivotal role in fostering student engagement and strengthening the university’s sense of community. She successfully organised a range of events, including pool tournaments and end-of-year celebrations, which enriched the student experience at the school.
As she embarks on her professional journey as a Graduate Mining Engineer at Westgold Resources Limited, Shayera continues to exemplify the values of dedication, leadership, and excellence that the WASMA Gold Medal seeks to honour.
