Dear Alumni

An exciting new transformation at Curtin University occurred at the beginning of 2018 with the powerful resources engineering disciplines of Chemical and Petroleum incorporated into the WA School of Mines and the WA School of Mines Alumni. Mineral and Energy Economics, which for over a decade were located within Curtin’s Graduate School of Business, was returned to WASM .

The reconfigured WA School of Mines-MECE (Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering) has a new Head, Professor Vishnu Pareek, while its operations on the University’s Kalgoorlie campus will continue to be led by Professor Sam Spearing – Director, WASM Kalgoorlie.

Consolidating engineering, economics and science capabilities to one school attracts strong industry partnerships and investment in high-tech facilities, operating from campuses in Perth and the historic mining town of Kalgoorlie in our goldfields region.

The WA School of Mines Alumni is regarded highly within the Resources Sector and has a strong reputation for it’s hands on approach to running an organisation that keeps everyone connected. The alumni offers personal career guidance, mentoring, free networking, monthly events, financial services and  a recruitment platform, free to all industry within the resources sector.

The alumni produces and presents it’s own podcast series with support from the ABC and recorded at Curtin FM. A quarterly magazine called The Review, encourages members to tell their stories, features the latest research within the resources industries, and connects members with Curtin’s own research and staff.

We have two separate branches, Kalgoorlie, Chair Mr Vic Simpson, Northern Star Resources and Bentley, Chair Mr David Harwood, Woodside. The Branches are responsible for maintaining consistent engagement between the students, graduates and industry.

A Fund was established in 2017 for scholarships; the alumni sees itself as every student’s financial partner while they are studying at WASM-MECE.

The WA School of Mines Alumni would like to welcome you aboard as a member to our global family and invite you to attend our Resource Connect event on November 21st at Mayfair Lane West Perth, 5pm – 6.30pm. Your hosts for the evening are the WA School of Mines Alumni Council, President Mr Raleigh Finlayson, and Guest speaker Mr David Harwood.
